Perth (Cottesloe Beach), Western Australia
Hey everyone!
Successfully navigated my way round Singapore & onto Perth WA.
Singapore:
Arrived at hostel 8pm so met room mates Mr China, Mr Japan, Mr Taiwan & Mr Singapore. All sound guys, when I mentioned I was from Scotland the Chinaman clapped and called me Nessie. Ace! Day 1 was spent on Sentosa Island which was interesting. Pretty cool place but all man made shiz & new, bit of a theme in Singapore. Went for a walk along the 3 beaches which looke small enough on the map....but 4 hours later I reached my destination & had a snooze. Sunage + snoozage + not enough creamage = burnt Colin! Returned from Sentosa at night & went for a traditional Thai meal which hit the spot.
Day 2 was spent doing a combo heritage / city / river tours & general wandering which were all ace. Trekked round the Grand Prix track as well then found a place flogging tickets for $70 (35 quid) for the whole weekend. Was very tempted to prolong my stay!
Day 3 kicked off very badly - finding out the Aberdeen v Sigma score from the night before. Surely things couldn't get any worse? They did - a lad from somewhere called 'England' moved in. Gads! Must have been a rare breed though cos he was alright. He had been USA - NZ - Oz - Singapore so spent the day in town with him speaking about his experiences etc from travels. He had a mate studying politics in Singapore for his 2nd year of Uni from 'England' so the 3 of us went out for an Indian in Little India - quite possibly the worst meal in history...it was basically curried bones with a serving of stuff resembling the extract from the beaks of 1million swine flu sufferers. And we had to eat with our hands cos there was no cuttlery. Not nice. Went on the Singapore flyer after tho which was spectacular. Singapore at night is up there with the greatest views I've seen. The Flyer is the tallest observation structure in the world at 164m high & took 38mins for a full revolution. Took waaaaaaay too many photos but it was either that or speak to an Englishman. Ha!
Day 4 I went to the airport to fly to Perth. Shared a taxi with a Swiss couple, the dude was very knowledgeable about football, well, until he said Aberdeen were a great team! Breakfast on the plane consisted of a curry with 6 bottles of red wine (small ones) & a crunchy ice cream. A meal fit for a King, never mind a gypsy traveller!
Perth:
Arrived in Perth & took a taxi to the hostel on Cottesloe Beach. Got there in time to catch the last hour of sun & the following sunset. It was absolutely stunning & has made it onto the 'top sights' list alongside the view from the Singapore Flyer at night & Marv's mum breast feeding, although I'm still unsure as to which order they take on the podium!! Staying with a Glaswegian, 2 Irish lads, a Kiwi, an Englishman & a Colombian all of who are a good laugh. Met the other folk staying as well so all is good in the hostel hood.
Spent today in Perth itself which is a beautiful city with a massive garden at the top overlooking the city centre / Swan River & beyond. Seems a great place to start the Aussie leg of the adventures!
To be continued..........sometime!! (with photos)
