Chris' travels
This spot was the main reason I decided to come to Newfoundland. And it did not disappoint.
The scenery here is very spectacular. It has everything.
- Fiords - although technically they are as they did not reach the sea. Ignore this first one
- Deep freshwater lakes with steep cliffs that look like a fiord
- Other ranges which are less steep and fiord like but still nice to look at
- Large attractive harbour
- Snow covered pine trees
- Snow covered mountains
- Snow covered roads - less spectacular and more nerve racking really.
- Many native animals - moose, coyotes, bears, squirrels, birds. I saw only the last 2.
Unfortunately the weather was abit ordinary plus some heavingish snow which meant I was not able to do the walks that had the awesome views.
I would definitely consider coming back in the better weather season. It really is a great spot.
I managed to meet a few locals at a 'pot luck' dinner which was at the B&B I stayed at. The people were really friendly and quite a few had travelled to Australia. Most of the conversation was about where and how they had shot their moose - they hunting season is well underway.
