Neil's journey
So, arrived in Hoi yesterday after longer than intended stay in Nha Trang. Although didn't like Nha Trang at first, grew to quite like the place - very relaxing and was quite sad to go. Had to delay because of typhoon here in Hoi An - by the time I arrived the weather was ok although you could see they were still clearing up (see picture) electricity was affected and of course most importantly no one was able to use the internet - I tell you, everyone is so competitive with there emailing - you have to get in quick or up at 6.30 am as I did this morning - its a bit of the old 'my emailing is more important than yours scenario' - i think its a bit more of the 'time on yours hands scenario' myself but hey, when you've only got two mates......
The bus here was overnight and was really bad - I know its cheap but Jesus....cramped, old, no air con, everyone reclines their seats (like the airplane....its so annoying, fair enough if you can afford first class). Anyway, definitely the soft sleeper train from now on - also want to avoid the people on the bus tour due to taking too much sedation, having a nightmare about being stabbed and waking up sweating whilst screaming like a young girl - I've been walking around town with my hat on - surely no one will notice me? One guy I saw from the bus asked me if I was dreaming I was a monkey so christ only knows what it must have sounded like! Luckily the friends i met up with here in Hoi An were not on the same bus although its just a matter of time before word gets out.....
The hotel I'm staying in is really lovely as is the town of Hoi An - they call it a walking museum and you can see - beautiful colonial style architecture, narrow streets and its famous for all these really fantastic tailor shops - the stuff they churn out is really stylish and up-to-date, they keep NEXT catalogues and everyone seems to bring pictures of the clothes, suits, bags and shoes that they want re-produced - the results are fantastic and relatively speaking it costs next to nothing - I bought two fetching wool winter coats (as worn by will young....I know, i know) for $50 and I'm bad at bargaining....the girls stuff looks pretty incredible from what I've seen - if anyone wants to send photos, am happy to buy....I think all women would especially love it here.
Having been away for a while, and had lots of conversations am starting to make a list of really annoying things people say when they're talking to you - I think the list could easily grow....what do you think piers? anything to add?....
1 - 'Can I GET a coffee'
.....JESUS, its cagney and lacy.....Come on love, your from bromley....
2 - 'Hello...NEWSFLASH....etc etc'
.....LIke hello...newsflash..... piss off and talk to someone else...NOW...
3 - 'yeah, it really ticks all the boxes....'
.....mainly house programmes but I've heard it a couple of times....tick my arse.....
4 - 'sexercise'
....oh please......
