We loved Agnes Water, I think it helped we had such a cool hostel! If you go, stay at 1770 Beachside Backpackers. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the rooms were nice and it had a great atmosphere in the evenings with everyone sitting around laughing and drinking. Our first night we got there, there was a BBQ on which made things easier due to arriving quite late. Hannah, who we met at Fraser, was staying at our hostel so we all had a room together which was nice. We got a couple of drinks and joined in the antics. We were soon greeted by Jimmy who was the token alcoholic of the hostel but such a nice guy. He definitely helped make a good impression of Agnes. After having a few to drink and mingling with the others, we headed to bed being shattered still from Fraser.
We decided to have our first lie in of the trip which was so nice and well needed! The sun was shining and we all headed straight down to the beach for the day. It was the perfect temperature, hot but with a cool breeze. There were lots of people out surfing as it's the last stop on the coast where you can get good waves. We had lunch at a little cafe just off the beach. They did these amazing satay chicken skewers which we three all ended up having. Anything but sandwiches! Beach days always go much quicker than you'd like, so around 4 o clock we headed up to the shops to grab some dinner and food for the next day. We had a pretty chilled evening, did some much needed washing and lazed around the hostel.
Unfortunately the next day, the weather had turned on us again. It's rained every place we've been too, just not cool! So we spent the morning at the hostel being productive and trying to figure out a plan. I started looking for jobs and thinking about where I actually want to settle. Still no closer to really knowing what's going to be best. It's so hard when you don't the place, and it's winter, and there's so much choice! Plus I think lots of people are struggling to find work... Fingers crossed it happens fairly quick as I'm low on funds! In the afternoon, Danni and I did the Scooteroo Tour which was basically where you get to ride mini Harley Davidsons around Agnes Water and 1770. After going a little while, I realised I could not ride it! I kept putting my feet down if I wanted to stop which obviously isn't safe... So in the end I went on the back of Anthony's bike (one of the guides - not a random learner!) which was in a way better. I could actually see the places we were visiting rather than concentrating dead ahead on the road. We saw lots of wild kangaroos and some beautiful scenery as well. Being on Anthony's bike meant we could go a lot faster, so he ended up blasting up these roads which was quite exhilarating! Proper adrenalin rush. We stopped off at the estuary at 1770, had a snack before heading back to the centre as it was getting dark. It gets dark so early here, by the time it's 6pm you feel like it's at least 10pm or something! Makes you feel a lot more tired in the evening. We decided to have a few drinks as it was our last night and Jimmy had bought a 9.5kg watermelon that he'd filled with vodka so we felt rude not to help him out! :)
We had all the following day at Agnes too as we had a night bus to our next stop (Airlie Beach). It wasn't the best weather, rather cloudy and a bit grey but we still braved the beach! We ended up head to toe covered in sand as the wind was blowing that much. We took shelter at lunchtime in the cafe but the clouds were quickly coming in making it a bit too chilly to stay at the beach. Thankfully the hostel let us use showers and freshen up even though we'd already checked out. We made some dinner and then watched Finding Nemo which got us all exciting for our sailing and diving!
Sat on the bus and all I can say is it's going to be a long night, especially as we arrive at 7am so need to power through the next day. Let's hope I can get some shut eye!
Till next time :)
