Our four and a bit hour drive east from Perth to Wave Rock near the small town of Hyden was really pleasant. The road passed for 150km through the beautiful forests and orchards of the Avon Valley, and then through a couple of interesting towns as the "wheatbelt" started in. Fuelling up in Corrigan, they had signs everywhere referring to their world record for the most number of dogs in utes gathered together at one time - 1500!
Unlike Uluru, the people around Wave Rock are quite happy to have you clambering all over it, and our very pretty campsite was less than a 150m walk away. Some had told us they found the place disappointing, but not sure what they were expecting - Uluru maybe! We took in the wonder of Wave Rock itself (a natural granite eroded by water over millenia) and up onto the top of the outcrop. The locals have used the side of it to wall up their dam too! To top it all off, we even managed to fish around for our tshirts again to make the most of the sunshine.
