Our last day in Tokyo today - the rain even managed to stay away finally! Humid and 29 Degrees. We had a leisurely morning with a walk along the breakwater and swim in the inside pool (the huge outdoor pool is only open for the 3 months over summer!), and bought some tickets for the after 3pm session at Disneyland Tokyo. The crowd upon arrival was absolutely staggering, made more oppressive by the hot, humid weather. Each of the big attractions such as the Haunted House, Star Wars, Monsters Inc and Splash Mountain had no fast passes left and waiting times were all in excess of 70-100 minutes. We stopped and decided to change our plans instead of fleeing in horror. After making our way to the opposite end of the park, we came across the Beaver canoes with only a 10 minute wait. It was a blissfully peaceful paddle (we all had oars) around a jungle circuit with Indian villages, robotic deer, moose etc - sounds dreadful, but it was a great way to cool down and escape the masses. Other attractions with fewer people were the river boats of It's a Small World, Swiss Family Treehouse where we climbed up several stories with various rooms based on a fave movie from childhood and excellent views, plus the Mark Twain Paddlesteamer. We even managed to wait only 30mins for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which went over a small waterfall and along a river with scenes from the movies - very well done! The main parade started at 7.30pm, and we made our way back towards the Haunted House in the hope that the waiting time had reduced - 100 minutes down to 20 - and the short queue turned out to be a good vantage point to see a few of the very brightly lit floats going past. This attraction was brilliant; spread over several floors, and all based on the movie "A Nightmare Before Christmas". A quick ride for the girls on the carousel while we awaited the fireworks - only to be told it was canceled with the wind a little high, and replaced with a lightshow over the magic castle. The girls both claimed the day over, and we managed to view a bit of the bright lights on our way back to the bus stop. A memorable day with more highlights than I expected, but not in a terrible hurry to return.
