After planes and trains we arrived in Madrid yesterday afternoon, just in time to hit El Rastro - Europes biggest flea market. Talk about a mass of people, it felt like Mardi Gras with less alcohol. After wandering it for a while we headed for lunch at Estado Puro. The food there was incredible! We shared confit potatoes with aioli and roe, tuna tartar and smoked tuna with braised peppers. Not to mention the best sangria to date (looked it the components of a fruit cup) and tiramisu in a glass with no cookie and rich chocolate. We headed to walk Parque del Buen Retiro, Madrid's central green space, followed by a visit to the Thyssum Museum. We finished up the day by heading to La Carmencita for dinner. Another hit for food with fresh calamari, tender veal meatballs and lightly fried monkfish. A great bottle of temprinillo from the Ribera region and the best cheesecake I have ever had (made with local organic queso fresco)
Time to hit the streets for another day!
