Last full day in Dublin and I have a few things to check off my tourist list still. Today the plan is the Dublin museum of Archeology, the Guinness ness Storehouse, and Kilmainham Gaol (which is pronounced jail...seriously).
The Museum of Archeology was first and had some interesting exhibits, from gold working to Viking weapons and pottery, to human remains that were centuries old. A lot of history and finds for such a small country. Still, I was out of there pretty fast, as it only holds my interest for so long. On the way to Guinness (which was quite the jaunt and it was raining....again) I passed by St Stephens Green again. If I ever decide to live it up in style in Dublin, I'm staying at the Shelbourne Hotel, right across from it.
The Guinness Storehouse was actually a very cool exhibit. It was well layer out, gave you just enough information to be interesting without going overboard, and interactive as well. I still hate the taste of Guinness! Fun fact, when Arthur Guinness sighed the lease for the brewery in Dublin where he would make his beer, he signed for 9000 years. Talk about confidence in your business!!!!
Then on to the Kilmainham Gaol, which is Dublin's famous jail, primarily because it was used to jail political prisoners several times, particularly the war of independence in 1916, where 13 of the revolutionists were executed by firing squad. It has also been used in several movies.
After I left, I popped in the National Museum of Modern Art as it was literally across the road. I popped back out ten minutes later, secure in the knowledge that I really do dislike modern art.
After a long day of walking I headed back to the hostel, as crashed in the common area, where I had a horribly unhealthy dinner of chips and cider while catching up on John Oliver and Stephen Colbert. It was raining cats and dogs and I had no intention of getting soaked for the umpteenth time!
