G'day!
We were at dinner in Darwin and I received a text from Jetstar informing me that our flight had been delayed by 3 hours to 9:20 am due to the Chilean volcano spewing ash across the Pacific Ocean. What a result...3 hours extra in bed. The reality of course was that we spent 3 extra hours partying with the Topdeck crew for the last time. People slowly started to leave and the last 5 people dancing were all British. Sure shows that we know how to party and the others dont!
We boarded the plane and it took off. Our camera was in my back pocket which was uncomfortable so I moved it to the compartment elastic thing in front of me and promptly fell asleep. Two and a half hours later the plane lands and me and Emilie wake up. Remain in ur seats blah blah the plane docks and people start getting off. We begin to gather our things together and I realise "f***, where is the camera?!" We searched the whole plane to no avail; it would seem some c*#^ had stolen it while we were both asleep. How do you do this? We told Jetstar but nothing they can do and left number at lost luggage in case somebody had picked it up by mistake. Unlikely. Bye bye camera. Thankfully, we only had a day of photos unaccounted for (albeit, over a hundred photos including jumps, backflips, bombs, dives into rock pools at Litchfield National Park and photos from partying). Kyri has very kindly offered to donate us his camera for the rest of our trip.
We went to the police here to report the camera stolen and thought it was sorted until I got an email today saying they can't process the report because the last place we had it was Northern Territory not Queensland. What bulls***. IT WAS STOLEN IN THE SKY! The email instructed me to call police in Darwin although she wasn't sure whether or not they would be able to process a report on the phone. Prob not worth it as any excess is likely to be 70-80% the value of the camera.
The last couple of days have been chilled in Cairns. Day by the pool, day looking around town etc. So nice here that we went to extend our stay (as was $36 a night in our room) but they were booked! Natascha (one of the Topdeck girls who is from Switzerland) arrived in Cairns and since there was a spare bed in our room we snuck her in for a couple nights! As if it wasn't cheap enough with a pool (complete with a slide) and free breakfast. We've booked elsewhere for 3 nights.
Tomorrow we are snorkling the Great Barrier Reef which is gonna be awesome and Tuesday Emilie and Natascha are doing a skydive. No way am I going up in the sky and jumping out of a plane 14000 feet in the air freefalling to the ground. They can enjoy themselves!
Thursday we pick up our campervan for 5 days and then it's off down the East Coast where we have booked trips/tours to Whitsundays, Fraser Island, Magnetic Island and kayaking to name but a few. Then slowly work our way to Sydney and eventually Melbourne to fly back to England.
