It's sunday. Hangover day you may say? yes, normally i would agree, but today not so much. Instead of sleeping in and having pringles and diet coke for breakfast i am departing from Oslo to India.
Holy s*** I'm going to India!!!
The day that have seemed so distant the past few months is finally here. A million thoughts are rushing through my head, but i can't seem to hold on to a single one of them. Am i ready for this? did i pack all the stuff im going to need? I have no clue. I actually have no freakin clue of what im doing. But for some reason i'm not worried. Im suprisingly calm.. is that a good sign or a bad sign..? I don't know that either.
I did it, i made it all the way to Dehli airport! And even better, i made it through the most chaotic and dangerously crowded traffic i have ever seen (including die hard 4), and to the hotel. Finally i can get out of the sweaty car and breath some fresh Indian air, and just relax. Except the hotell is located right next to a dumpster. we're talking about an entire neighbourhood filled with garbage, and even better- there are pigs and dogs running around squeeking and barking like wild animals (when they're actually not :P). I really can't do anything else than laugh at the whole scenario and embrace myself for the rest of the trip.
When i get to my room I find that im sharing the bed with a roomie. But that is quite alright cause Sabine, 35 years old from France, turns out to be quite the travel compagnion.
We go out to see the city for a few hours and we find ourselfs a tuktuk. Or actually he finds us. His name is Ram and takes us to the closest mall. A mall that only sells Indian tekstile, pasminas, jewlery and wooden figures of Hindu gods. Classic tourist trap! So we tell Ram that we would like so see some more Indian places and that we're hungry. He takes us to his favourite "restaurant" and waits outside for us till were done eating. We're the foreigners in the whole restaurant and everybody is staring and talking about us, and they're not even trying to hide it. No worries though, they're all smiling so i'm pretty sure they're discussing how beautiful i am. Or what a white slut i must be.. but you know, that's just as a traveller...
The food is amazing. Amazingly cheap!! Hell to the yeah! 2 dollars for an entire meal with 3 different dishes, dessterts and drinks. :O LIKE!
Ram is starting to grow quite found of Sabine and myself. And on the way to the park he says that he likes my hair and lets me testdrive his tuktuk. Even Ram who drives like a pig thinks i'm a hopeless driver... great success!
after driving around to a million places in New Delhi, including all sorts of underground Indian shops and places, he takes us back to the hotell and givs us his number just in case we change our mind about going to a disco with him the same night. Sweet guy.
We've still got some time before the orientation meeting so we walk around in the main street in Karol Bagh and take pictures. A lot of pictures!
At the oreintation meeting we meet up with the rest of the adventueres and we go to the dinner afterwards as a pretty international crew. Australia, New Zealand, Germany, England, France, Canada, USA, and of course Norway. REPRESENT!
First day in India has been looong, but fantastisk!
