Aloha! Or as they say in Singapore...err...hello!! Well, our train from Malaysia was ok apart from they seemed to have overlooked to fit the train with a luggage compartment, so Nick and I both enjoyed sharing a thin bunk with our backpacks!! Oh well...we arrived into Singapore and armed with our trusty guidebook we set about finding somewhere to stay...right then...hmmm....this should be easy yes??
Four hours later, a whole lot of trudging and sweating and a slight detour back to the airport (!) we arrived at the swish Orchard Parade Hotel...and spent the afternoon enjoying the rooftop swimming pool...aah that's nice! Well, sometimes you need a bit of relaxation!!
That evening we went mooching around the areas of Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, both filled with bars and restaurants and a jolly nice place to spend the evening (amongst the hoardes of ex-pats!) We opted for a very classy looking restaurant - Hooters!! In Singapore!?!?! Crazy...but they served authentic Singaporean cuisine such as hot dogs and burgers...delicious!
The next day we did engage a bit more with our host country by visiting it's favourite attraction, Sentosa Island. It's a bit like a theme park without rollercoasters...lots of fun though! We rode the monorail to get there which is always fun, and went on the luge which was brilliant! We had to go on twice it was sooooo good...for those not in the know, a luge is a bit like a go kart but it just works on gravity and you go down a big hill very fast! We also went to an aquarium which was very good, and then had an amazing foot spa where little (but very vicious) fish nibbled away at our feet for 20 minutes and then we had a 20 minute foot and leg massage on what was left of our feet. It was fab, although I did fear for the safety of the little Chinese man massaging Nick's feet, it tickled him so much I thought he was going to kick him in the head!!
With pampered soft tootsies...we went to watch the dolphin show which was very good and they showed off all their tricks. Then they were after volunteers to join in...so with a bit of persuasion Nick stepped up! It was great, he got to go in the water with the dolphin (called Splash) and they had a little dance, sang a song and he held it, then it gave him a big kiss!! A sopping but very pleased Nick emerged - pictures to follow!!
We had a slightly easier day for our last day...we visited the theatre shaped like a durian fruit (like in the pic) on the riverfront and had a stroll through Chinatown...and we went for a nosey at the hotel Ma and Pa will be staying in in June - it looks very nice! (We went to the loo too just to check, y'know, and all was good there too don't you worry - a fine establishment!!)
All in all we had an ace few days back in Singapore, we really love it there, there is so much to do and everyone is friendly etc...basically just a really nice place to spend a few days!
Don't know what went wrong with the last pics but will try again soon and get some more up - promise!
Hope you are all keeping warm at home, we certainly are!! Muchos love!! xxx
