So we were off on 'The Dog' again... this time on our way to meet Kevin and his family. Lisa worked with Kev when she taught dance in America back in 2001!! Back when he was young free and single and now on our way to meet his wife Karolina with bump (due anyday) and little girl sophie..Lisa was so excited!
We arrived in Newcastle and walked around the corner to our YHA hostel where we had a dorm to ourselves for a few hours at least. We were joined by a couple of Aussie girls who were staying the night before travelling a little further up the coast and wanted a good night out in Newcastle.. well...we were going to stay in but we couldnt let them go out on their own could we?! Went to a few bars and danced the night away to some great RnB for a change!! yay!!
Woke up early with no hangover - result! and Kev picked us up from the hostel! We spent the weekend with Kev's family and even Karolina's mum and sister were over from Poland awaiting the arrival of the new baby!...We visited Maitland Jail and were able to do a self-guided tour with headphones which was great....We also went onto a nature reserve where Lisa got to stroke her first Koala! Here we walked around and saw Kangaroos, Koalas, Wombats, Emus and lots of tropical birds! such a lovely day!
That evening we met Kev's family who were so lovely and we had some well needed delicious food! It was so nice to be in a family atmosphere rather than around backpackers for a change (no offence all our very friendly backpacking buddies)..The next day we went around Newcastle, saw the marina, ate some fish and chips and took Sophie to the beach! Spent the evening at Kev's parents house with his sisters family too.. Everyone was so kind to us and we had a fantastic dinner! especially the sticky pudding with ice-cream.. compliments to the chef!
The next morning we had to say goodbye and get back on the Greyhound to surfcamp! Lisa was sad saying goodbye to Kev but he will hopefully be coming to visit late this year!
A great weekend was spent with an old friend catching up on some good memories..
