We spent that evening in Huay Xai at Mr Sing's Guesthouse.. he is such a character and his english was amazing along with his fluent French!!! We ate dinner overlooking the Mekong river whilst Jayne got attacked by a huge flying bug which obviously liked ginger hair way toooo much!! Lisa got 10 points for swatting it with her menu about 10ft away after it escaped Jayne's hair! We had a few beers back at the guesthouse with Renee, Laura and Mo .Mo encouraged creepy stories and we ended up freaking out Laura and Mo into a complete state! pretty amusing for us though! teehee
We grabbed breakfast and collected our lunch ready for our 2 day cruise along the Mekong River down through Laos. Mr Vong our new local guide was brilliant, he beagn teaching us Laos and telling us Laos myths and legends.
The time on the boat was very chilled our group either read, played cards or listened to music whilst soaking up the scenery. We also went to visit a Laos village where the children came to greet us...it was so lovely to have contact with little ones again! That evening we stayed in Pakbeng..The rain had made the hill upto the guesthouse muddy and very slippery, the village children came running down hoping that they could be paid for carrying our bags up the hill, we obviously didnt have a problem with that!...Mr Vong took us on a tour of the village and we went to see the monks at the temple. Dinner was gorgeous and we got back to our room just before the generators were turned off!
It has stormed overnight and we woke up dreading walking or shall we imagine sliding down that hill back to the boat! The boys came back to get our bags (thank god!) and we made our way down slowly, Jayne and Renee's flip flops breaking and all of us either sliding or having to physically pull our feet out of the sinking mud.. Needless to say we were suprisingly glad to be back on the boat!
The second day along the Mekong was much the same really... although we did stop off at the Pak Ou caves to see lots of Buddha statues and to take pictures.
Later that day we finally came to our destination... Luang Prabang! And here we shall stay for 3 days..
