After a very long day on the minibus we finally arrived at the village...
Our local guide took us around to see the families and children along with many a bird.. (thanks again Elliot Wald). The village is split by the river so we walked across the bridge to get to the houses we were going to be staying in. We were so excited about seeing where we would sleep and who we would be living with for the night. Straight away we made a beeline for the children, making immediate friends with a boy and a girl who both lived in the stick house which we slept in. The little girl was 4 and her name is Mo and the little boy was 5 and his name is Lee. They were so much fun and we played games and taught them pat-a-cake with our hands. We felt so welcome and our local guide cooked a delicious dinner for us although Lisa felt the need to eat a little too much chilli sauce...mouth was a little what shall we say..HOT..for a few minues after dinner.. teehee..
We all sat on the porch chatting until around 11pm, Mo and Lee were still sneaking in and out as there were all new people in their house! We finally gave in and went to lay our heads on the small matresses in the living area with our very own mosquito nets..thank god!
The next day we had to get up early for breakfast as it was another long drive to the Vietnamese border. We ate gorgeous omlettes with warm baguettes ..infact it was the best breakfast we have had since getting to Asia..
The bus journey was very long and we managed to get through the border reasonably quickly to board our new minivan. It was very windy down the mountains for a while so a few of us were feeling a bit sicky. We got to our hotel in Ninh Binh which was just a passing stop before heading out on the Halong Bay overnight cruise.
