We have left India and arrived into Nepal.
Things that we have learned during our time in India are as follows: Cows have the right of way in any and all situations. A horn is used instead of blinkers or mirrors and in pretty much any situation the driver feels it's needed. Any class of train is better than long road trips. Roads are only just barely classified as roads, they're more holes with bumps shared by trucks, cars, rickshaws, pedestrians, cows, goats and dogs all trying to go somewhere. We thought we could sleep anywhere, but have found one place we can't - back seat of a car in India (see roads for reasons why).
We finished our time in Varanasi. We enjoyed a sunset and sunrise boat ride on the River Ganges. Made wishes during a flower ceremony and watched as people took spiritual baths in front of the Ghats. The shopping the market was great, but from what others have told us, avoid The Mall at all costs. Although the touts in the market are a little full on. At the end of the day Del was approached one too many times. He just told the guy to "Go Away!" to which the tout responded "you're mean" and walked away. I on the other hand couldn't stop laughing and the exchange.
We crossed a manic border in to Nepal. Our first stop was Lumbini. we really wish we could have spent more time there to enjoy the many temples and stupas. We did get the chance to visit Buddha's birthplace. This was quite peaceful and full of prayer flags.
Next we moved onto Chitwan National Park. It is a beautiful Jungle with plenty of wild animals. Today we visited an Elephant Breeding Centre and got to see baby's up close and even pet them. There were a set of twins here that are the first to survive. Later we went on a canoe ride down the river. Saw lots of birds and even a crocodile.
We have two more nights in the Jungle before we move onto Kathmandu...
