We have made it down to Van Viang in Laos. It has been quite a beautiful trip south.
We crossed the border from Thailand into Laos at Chiang Kong and hopped on a slow boat south. We cruised down the Mekong River for 2 days. Nothing to do but chill out with a book, some music or just watch the world go by. We lucked out on the first day as we got some very comfy seats, unlike anything I had expected. The second day however we are very happy we got down early as every single seat was a hard wooden one. We picked one at the front to get the extra leg room.
In Louang Phabang everything was so chilled compared to Thailand, Nepal and especially India. The people are very kind and nobody pushes you to buy. We walked through an amazing night market that just sort of springs up with the sun goes down. Saw the sunset over the Mekong and Visited a waterfall. Kouang Si waterfall is unlike any we have every seen before. It has aqua blue waters and descends over many tiers. After hiking to the top we decided to go for a swim. The water was quite refreshing. If you stood still too long you had little fish nibbling at your feet, strange feeling. You could swim under the waterfall and there was even a rope swing, I found this scary but very fun.
The following day we got lucky again and ended up in a mini bus with us and two other people, this is nearly unheard of and we thought we would be waiting around all day to leave until they filled it up. So you win some you lose some, and this time we won. We had a very comfortable trip through the windy hills south to Vang Vieng.
It is very touristy here, full of bars that play family guy, friends and simpsons for you to watch as you eat and drink. Today we are going to go tubing down the Nam Xong river and chill out in the sun...
