I have the distinct memory of myself as a six-year-old, trying to learn the folk tune "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" on my violin. It wasn't pretty. Besides the scratchiness of my tone, I was so frustrated with the bowing pattern that I began to cry. I was never going to master the violin, let alone learn this song! Nearly thirty years later, I realize that perseverance pays off, but it doesn't make it any easier for a beginner in Spanish at my age. I feel like I should be constructing more sophisticated sentences than "Yo deseo comer una manzana" (I want to eat an apple)...though that phrase does come in handy when I'm hungry, por que me gusta comer frutas frescas. I'll get there, but I will admit it can be frustrating from time to time. My teacher reminds me "poco o poco, Stephanie"--bit by bit.
Today in worship at Talitha Kum Lutheran, the pastor reminded us (in Spanish--I understand more than I can speak) that when we live in the love of God, we have no fear and live with confidence (1John 4:16-18). It was a good reminder for Paul and me as we live in another country, immersed in another language and culture. It's a good reminder for all of us no matter where we find ourselves. Live in the love of God with confidence that you can meet the challenge set before you, bit by bit, by the grace of God.

Jan Walton What a wonderful learning experience you are both having!!
Iris, Nora, Kjell, Heidi We are so proud of you! Happy Valentine's Day. We love you and miss you. We hope you have a great time there. When you come home can we fiesta? Enjoy the day- and seize it too!
Monica Bobek Thanks for the encouraging words. I know I am much older than you two, but often as I am required to learn new things at my age it can be challenging. Somtimes I feel like my brain if full and I may need to forget somethings to make room for something new. I hope your trip continues to be one of joy and grace with your new gift of the spanish language.
Christie Nelson Boy Steph, can I ever relate! Stick with it! Hope you are well. Take care. Blessings.
Gail & Don Kleven We still have no snow here--you might see more in Peru (high up) than we do here. We're looking forward to a full report--stay safe and well. Don & Gail
Sarah What a wonderful thought. Thank you for a late night devotional reminder. Love you both. Have fun everyday
