After walking across & back on the bridge we caught another bus to Ocean Beach which overlooks the Pacific Ocean. We then caught No. 18 bus the the Palace of the Legion of Honor Museum. What a spectacular view!
We got a $2 discount on our entry fee because we had MUNI passes (public transport passes) but we still had to pay. We tried what you said Karen about Museums are free & only a donation is required, but they said we had to pay. Anyway, we saw some nice artwork & the trip was worth it.
Then we caught the bus back Downtown - went past the Japan Center & got off to venture into the Levi's Store. 4 levels of just Levi's - I am overwhelmed by the shops - so much choice.
Went to Westfield for coffee and to have a rest - we had had a big day so far.
Then caught streetcar to Fisherman's Wharf, Rick bought me a "I love Sex and the City" T-shirt, then walked to catch the cable car with the fantastic views of the wharf area. As we only wanted to do part of the trip, we were able to get on straight away - good tip with so many tourists about - I'm sure they have doubled since we arrived.
Went to Lombard Street - the crookedest street in San Francisco & some beautiful houses and gardens. Then ventured over to Union Street area with very trendy shops & restaurants. Caught another bus to take us back to the hotel & a very nice man asked where we were from. When we told him he said not to try and look like tourists and to put our map away as the bus we were on was going thru some "rough" areas of town. Straight away we tried to blend in & I had to wing the trip back & try & remember which stop to get off.
Well we did make it back, but it was very late & Market Street is really not the place you want to be walking at night. I don't recommend staying there.
