Well we are in Paris after the worst train ride yet. Our hostel is nice and we are starving, so we are going out to find some French cuisine! Love you all, will update later.
So we went out, found some food at a nice cafe across the street from Notre Dame, then went into Notre Dame and just so happened to arrive shortly before the friday evening service. So we stayed and enjoyed a mass that we could not understand. It was magnificent though. Not as big as the Dom in Koln, but quite breathtaking nonetheless. The music was overwhelming, with a full choir and extremely talented young vocalists.
After the mass and some picture taking, it got dark and COLD! We wanted to see the Eiffel Tower at night although both of us were very underdressed in just fleece and a single layer underneath. So we took the train to the Tower and got some good shots at night. Another magnificent sight to see. Much larger than expected.
Then we headed back to the hostel to get some more layers. Geared up in our ski jackets and gloves, etc., we headed to the highest point in Paris, known as the Montmartre Neighborhood. This is where the Sacre Coeur Basilica and many nice shops, restaurants, etc. are located on some beautiful streets. It is also just a few blocks from Moulin Rouge and Paris' 'Red Light District' (more R rated than X rated compared to Amsterdam's). This area is rather close to our hostel, so we were able to get back by foot and now are preparing for our day tomorrow. We hope to join a tour where we can see some of the sights we already saw today, and learn some more about the city. Unfortunately we have to check out tomorrow, so it will be a rushed day, but we think that with the tour we'll be able to squeeze quite a bit into the day like in London. Next time we update will probably be in Milan, after our overnight train ride tomorrow night. Look forward to hearing from you all then.
