Well New Year's Eve turned out to be far more entertaining than planned. After spending the day touring and overdosing on cultural sights I thought I'd have a quiet dinner and watch the fireworks from my hotel at midnight. I got chatting to two americans sitting next to me, well to be fair they started talking to me! you know one those eyeing you up situations looking for an excuse to chat situations. Anyway we got chatting which lead to a drink and then another. I joined them for another at bar down the road where we got talking to two other local guys so the night ended up with me and 4 guys dancing salsa. Our Local ( Pervian but living in Panama for 3 Years) 'Francisco' negotiated a discounted entrance fee into a salsa club after watching the fireworks at midnight so the fun began. Girls, I did myself no favours! My salsa was seriously not up to the local standard! Poor Francisco gave me a quick ' dummies guide to advanced salsa steps' while whisking me round the floor. What a sight, I was so not gracious but it was lots of fun! Bless him, he persisted until things got slightly better! The music changed to samba after a while and he got seriously excited. Before I knew what was happening we were back on the dance floor shaking everything abit everywhere! So another New Years Resolution;I am going to learn to dance Salsa properly!
Things were seriously dead around the city yesterday. I took myself off to a Park above the city to go for a stroll in the afternoon. As I was sitting at the viewing point looking over the city updating my travel journal I got a tap on the shoulder. An American couple who had been in my house in Antigua in November were standing behind me! how funny is that! They got engaged the night before.
So as the year begins I said goodbye to Centra America this morning in style. Unknown to me I flew business class to Quito so it's been a very stress free travel day soaking up the benefits of been first on and off the plane. A stark contrast to my 25cent ride on the public bus to the airport! My mum arrives in the morning. I can't wait to see her and thanks to mum the standard of hotel has jumped significantly!! Friday we set off on our five day boat tour around the Galapagos.
Hope it's been a good start to 2008 to you all XX
