Gabri and I have just been laughing. Isn't it always the same, an hour and a half until we leave for the airport and we are running around like mad women buying postcards, presents, Cd's. You'd never think we have been in Buenos Aires for over a week or maybe its more the fact that I have been in complete denial that I am going home and this wonderful voyage is finally coming to its inevitable end.
The week and the days seem to have evaporated here. In fact to try and justify why did we didn't buy anything sooner we just did alittle recap to assure ourselves that we really did do something so here is. Sunday we spent the day having a lazy lunch by Puerto Madero, alittle sun in the Park in Palermo and of course a Milonga for the night. Monday a day trip to Uraguay, up at the crack of dawn, boat at 8 and a nice stroll around the old historic colonial centre of Sacramento. As we sat having coffee we became engaged in obversing the table next to us, a english gent with green funky hair who jumped into groups of tourists as they passed pretending to listen to the guides. His campanions broke into hysterics each time and by the end us as well. I was convinced he was some very famous comedian from home. 2 hours later we were sitting having lunch when they passed by and exclaimed ' girls have you just come to Uraguay to eat. We got chatting and by the end of the exchange we have been offered tickets to their show in BA. Derek claimed it was about 'life' but as the curtains opended on tuesday evening we really didn't have any expectations of the dream which would cloud us for the next two hours. It finished with an audience full of adults behaving like 5 year olds jumping to touch the balls. Of course we got a speical invite back stage and even a few post performance drinks. Derek asked me to keep him updated with my budding Argentina romance as he genuinly seeemd fascinted by the romance of it all! Tuesday beforehand we strolled around the chic Palermo Viejo area. We came across this cute little boutique so as you'd expect in we went and starting trying on bits and piecs. The guy working there was so enthusiastic that by the end of it he had us trying on all sort of creations including the above creations in the photos. I mean really, where would you be going? and god they do nothing to hide your cellulite!! however we laughed alot, Charlies Angels or what!
Marcelo arrived on Wednesday so we headed to Recoleta Wednesday evening for dinner and abit of fun . The plastic surgeon from the clinic where Marcelo works was in BA for a conference so he joined us for dinner. Well girls, $1000 for nose job, $1500 for a boob job! no wonder the Iberia flights are constantly full. Appartenlyy lots of spanish come here to do abit of ' Maintence' work. Afterwards the three of us accompanied Gabri to a Tango club. She danced while we downed a bottle of wine. It is an interesting site to see so many young people so interested, its like a sight from the 50's, well what I am imagine a good old fashioned dance hall was like. As gabri said earlier you can dance any time of the day or night here. Unfairness to her she has had some stamina here, dancing until 3/4 most nights and up and at it in the morning. As the boys claimed after watching abit it seems like alot of work for little result!! Well you dance three dances together and they say thank you for very much and wait for the next offer. I did accompany her to a class on Monday but it was way too advanced. I disappeared after half an hour to phone Marcelo! shocking I know but if I'm going to start I need to do it seriously focused on learning!
We tried out lots of the culinary delights of Argentina, been in some of the oldest coffee houses, had afternoon tea, and walked lots absording the choas of this massive metropolis. It breaths energy as much as choas and this week with all the protests still continuing also alittle hostility. But one thing is for sure this beautiful diverse country has captured my heart.
Don't cry for me Argentina! I'll be back soon!!
