Well, it has been such a busy week, with planning lessons, input sessions (learning how to teach). and i have been eaten alive by mosquitos!! i hve morwe than 20bites per leg!! but they are calming down now! thankfully!!
Last weekend we visited the national park which is just down the road, we swam in the waterfalls, it was lovely, lots of jumping in and having fun. I managed to fall into a pool of water as i was walking along the edge of the waterfall, didnt realise it would be so deep, much to everyones amusement to see me suddenly there then disappeared!! It was Lovely. We also visited the swimming pool which we have access to, it has such a beautiful view of the golf course which belongs to the nearby palm factory and then the limstone karst formations.
We work on a rota to make breakfast and lunch and carry out morning chores, which has been renamed as 'fun time' to make it sounds more appealing!! So when on breakfast its a 7am start to be ready for 8am, we have had a selection of breakfasts, eggs mostly, bread and also pancakes :-) then 8.30am is fun time!! Then 9am we have our input sessions, followed by feedback from our lesson from the previous evening. then its on to lesson planning!! Lunch comes next, made by the same people who are on breakfast duty!! Then back to lesson planning!!
I teach a level one class at 7pm, this week we have had split lessons and i have taught in 3 lessons, i next teach on monday! its hard work because the level of english of the students is quite low. They are all different ages so that makes it more challenbging, there is a bunch of old ladies who dont like to be separated!! we get them involved in lots of activities so they can use the english we have taught them during the lesson!!
On friday i finally had a day off....we waved goodbye to the others on base who had a first aid course to do! and headed to Ao Nang beach. we headed up to the junction in ao luk...in the pouring rain. soaked through by the time we reached the san tom, a bus type thing...but not!! MAYBE A TAXI?? basically two benches in the back of a truck!! we went all the way to krabi and it was still raining...!! heavy!! this took about an hour!! when we reached krabi we were ushered onto the san tom going to ao nang...thankfully by this time it had stopped raining and the sun was beginning to shine...yay!! so we had a day on the beach in the sun it was lovely to get away from base where we had been for the while week!!
On friday night i went on a frog hunt, after the rain all day here in ao luk all the frogs come out and they make some crazy noises, some sound like cows, they have a fat body then they inflate their throat and their body deflates!! some squeak, they are tiny ones but kinda do the same thing at the big fat ones! then some sound like ducks!! didnt see any of them tho!!
Yesterday we went to a earby rural village to do a homestay with some of the locals! when we arrived we were stared at...we're used to this now! we also get beeped at as we walk to lessons!! we are pretty much the only white people in the village, we are falang...foreigners!! its a novelty!! so we arrived in a viallge for the night and headed to the hot sand beach, our trek to the water involved walking through mud which was extremely squelchey and reached our knees!! i thought i was doing well, managed not to lose my shoes till we reached the water, which i muist say was very very hot!! we then went swimming for a while...tried to catch some clams! i was rubbish, you have to burry your feet in the ground and feel for them! i just ended up slicing my feet open!! then we decided to go and get in the mud and see what good it would do for our skin!! The thai people just watched in bewilderment as we wallowed in the mud and washed our hair in it and covered ourselves literally from head!! Then we swam and washed it all off after it began to harder on our faces...easier said than done tho!!
We then returned back to the village on the back of a truck and went to our individual accomodations to shower and change ready for our dinner back at the main house in the village. After our shower it felt like everyone that our family knew came over to see us in our new house...i dont think they ever had falang in their houses before so it was very exciting for them, quite scary for us tho as we knew no thai and didnt even know which people owned the house we were staying in!! We then went to the main house for a delightful selection of thai food and we made some thai sweets...all steamed inside leaves. it was lots of fun :) sitting on the floor getting involved with the food we would be eating fro breakfast!
We then had an improptu party with a band who had never performed together till last night and im afraid to say that the lead singer couldnt sing at all, but it was fun! lots of dancing and a crazy lady with the most amazing cackle ever...apparently she likes to drink...she was the local nut i think!! hehe!! it amused us tho!
This morning we ate our thai sweets for breakfast then we said our goodbyes and headed back to our base in ao luk...back to reality some what. although we have cold water only...no hot showers!! but its all good fun!!
Will update again soon x
