We arrived in Salvador at 6am and did not have a great start! First, we gave the taxi driver an address of a hostal we wanted to stay in, but he did the usual trick of driving us round for a while to clock up the meter, then dropped us off in completely the wrong place. So we tried knocking on a couple of hostal doors, during which time a bloke grabbed my backpack and started to run off with it. Luckily it was a bit of a half hearted attempt and i managed to run after him and grab him so he dropped my bag. Then we had an encounter with the scariest, most disgusting man ever who turned out to be the owner of the hostal we were about to stay in. We promptly left and managed to find a HI hostal thankfully.....
Salvador is a really pretty place, with cobbled street and different coloured buildings. Generally we didnt find much to do here, apart from a big indoor market. There were a lot of little bars around where we were staying, and we went to a club with some guys we met which was quite good (apart from seeing a massive fight outside before we went in, and i also managed to cut my finger on a big shard of glass that got stuck in my shoe inside the club...). We also went to a dinner/show in a restaurant which was really interesting, and we went for a nice meal down on the sea front and watched Brazilians playing football on the beach.
We are leaving today to go to Morro de Sao Paulo which sounds a bit like Arraial - beaches, nightlife, etc. My last stop before home....boo.
