Clare's Travels of Oz and NZ
Spent the last few days based in Queenstown. Had a lovely time taking in the spectacular view of the Remarkables mountain range. I got a closer look by jumping out of a plane at 9000ft (baby dive) and really enjoyed the gliding gazing as the beautiful scenery the free fall was just scary!! But i did it, which i thought i wouldnt do when i got into the plane (which was tiny) and started to look down. Saying that though when you are doing a tandem skydive once you are in the plane you pretty much have no choice. Had great weather too so was really chuffed. After that I did some more heights stuff but this time with Mary on the gentle gondola. We watched sunset over Queenstown and had yet another tea and cake appointment in the sky cafe! Then in the evening we went for a lovely meal at a place called Finz along the lake front. A yummy fish restaurant where we had fish stew/soup can't remember the proper name and i had blue cod. Delicious food and we had a 'teapot' of mulled wine in the place next door before our meal. After the meal we headed for the multitude of bars Queenstown has, ending up in the World bar where we carried on the drinking. Yesterday I took a trip to Milford Sound (actually a fjord). Amazing scenery and the boat ride was good. Saw dolphins and seals and lots of waterfalls with rainbows. Definitely worth the ridiculously long bus journey. Today I took another long bus journey from Queenstown to Christchurch via Mt Cook. Saw the peak woo hoo as there was plenty of cloud on the way. Now in Christchurch getting ready to head home sniff sniff :(
