Clara & Mike's Travels
Today was our first proper day in Hong Kong, so we decided to go exploring, armed with our trusty guide books and maps. However we got stuck at the first hurdle of trying to catch the bus into town and so we got talking to an millionaire indian man who gave us a lift into the city. He also wanted to talk football to us and explained that the majority of people in HK support England.
Once in the city centre, we navigated our way to Hollywood Road and began the search for the vntage shops. We got lost a few times but eventually found some really good boutiquey places and pretty jewlerry shops where i bought some shorts and some fancy beads :) after a hard morning of shopping we stumbled across a boulangerie and had yummy cake and freshly squeezed orange jucie.
After this we wandered in and out of more interesting shops and then stopped for lunch in TE an Italien come Hong Kong pasta bar which was very good and even better, very cheap!
After this we made our way into the more central part of the city and stopped under a sheltered square to avoid the rain and consult the map. Here we befriended an American man and his Chinese wife who were really helpfull and walked us to the right tram stop so that we could get to Causeway Bay.
The tram took about 25 minutes and cost us the equivalent 12 pence.
By the time we got to Causeway Bay it was pretty late but that didn't matter because all the shops in Hong Kong stay open until about 11pm. So we looked around a few shopping centres and supermarkets and then found another vintage shop where mike bought a shirt.
Because this area of HK was so busy and all the streets looked the same, we decided to abandon the map. We found a fancy designer eye wear shop, where michael got some really nice Raybans in the sale.
After this we got talking to some fellow Yorkshire people who were also lost and then we caught the tram back to the city. We decided to get a taxi home because it was pretty late and they're usually quite cheap. However, our taxi driver didn't speak a work of English and took us to the top of a mountain and was adimant that we lived up there despite us telling him repeatadly that we didn't. Anyway eventually we had a communication breakthrough and mangaed to get home after being in the cab with him about 40 minutes, which still only cost about 4 pound.
Then we ate chocolate breakfast cereal for tea about 1am and went to bed with the air conditioning on full because it was soooo warm!
