Koh Phangan to Koh Tao
Wow! What a week. I have done so much already, it's a struggle trying to remember everything! All the days are starting to merge together now. I like it.
As soon as we arrived in Koh Tao I knew I loved it. It's more remote than Koh Phangan yet more developed in some aspects. Koh Tao has only been inhabited for 200 years. Koh Phangan is more of a party Island whereas people come to Koh Tao to chill out. And it is very chilled out! Its all very rushed in Phangan with lots of traffic. Taxis....EVERYWHERE! A taxi in Phangan is anything thats a pick-up truck or scooter. The pick up trucks were awesome, so dangerous though! We hired scooters for 4 days. It actually worked out cheaper to hire them than get taxis to and from town. It cost less than 400 bhat a day for the scooters which is less than 4 pounds! I feel in love with my scooter. Was reluctant to give it back!
When we arrived at the Lotus Resort we were taken to our huts. When I say huts I mean huts. Health and safety would have had one massive b**** fit! We had a ceiling fan that worked (suprisingly) but it was hanging off...bit of a hazard! We only stayed there for 2 nights and then we moved to a brand new hotel which was pretty swish compared to the third world shaks! The only bad thing about this Island is that there is no hot water.....cold showers it is! My favourite.
Even though the "bungalows" were crap. I LOVED the resort. On our first evening we went for a wonder to get dinner and found a nice plan on the beach. As it got darker we noticed bottle flames and cushions laid out (beach lounge) on the beach at the restaurant we were in. We went down there had a drink and chilled out...it was LOVELY! We were the only people there for a while then somehow we ended up being in the middle of flame throwing entertainment and the beach lounge was FULL of people! It was amazing. There was a guy on stage singing covers who was actually really good. I laid there thinking this is actually perfect. I felt very lucky to be there!! I could quite happily spend all my evenings there for a very long time. I LOVE KOH TAO!!
I got my open water diving licence yesterday after an intense 3 day course...YAY!! Will write about that another day as we are leaving shorlt. I am currently feeling hot hot hot in an internet cafe waiting for the ferry. Oh lay oh lay, oh lay oh lay, feeling hot hot hot! Etc etc...............
We are on the road again tonight (well, the sea!) and heading to Krabi and Phi Phi Island. EXCITED! But first I have to endure the joys of a 10 hour night boat. Not good when I'm already tired and hungover!!
