Australia- a bit of a contrast to Thailand to say the least! In more aspect than one. It was strange being in a country where they spoke English to begin with and it was clean! The only downside is that it is expensive and compared to Thailand it is VERY expensive, but then again anywhere would be. We started in Sydney as well, which is probably the most expensive place on the East Coast, if not Australia. I've been here over 6 weeks and have done so much and have not had a chance to update my blog. I have however, been keeping my journal up to date (sort of). So, I'll only tell you about the interesting parts!
Australia Day
We arrived just in time for Australia Day, so that worked out really well. It was one awesome day. It made me fall in love with Australia. Everyone was so happy (drunk) and friendly. Imagine if England won the World Cup (you need a good imagination for this one) and everyone was patriotically parading the streets with flags etc (but not in a yobbish manner ) enjoying themselves and spending time with friends and family. That's what it was like. It is a very family orientated day, so there was no trouble, not that I came across anyway.
We (me, Amy and Rosie) had a BBQ lunch on the roof of our hostel with other backpackers, which was fun, we had some good food, beer and met some English and Irish guys. After the BBQ we all went to Hyde Park where we played some games. We then saw sprinklers across the road and had to jump in. The water was warm and everyone had a laugh. Later on we chilled out watching some bands (I have no idea who they were) and sat at Sydney Harbor ready for the fireworks…….only the fireworks didn't happen, because we were at the wrong place! The fireworks went off on the other side at Darling Harbor….. apparently they were amazing!
