Hey Ya'll!So Friday was my first night in New York. I went to class that morning, I am taking summer school fyi, and we have tests every Friday so I opted to leave later than Lydia in order to not miss the exam. Anyway, I finished and went home to meet Coral who dropped me off at the Airport. I was going to fly American Airlines and my flight did not leave until 12:25. I went through security easily and was off to wait at my gate, when a curly haired girl caught my eye. I saw Christie Bonham at the airport with her mom eating lunch. Christie was off to Mexico where she would be studying the entire semester! It was so cool to bump into her there especially since it would be a while before I see here again. I bought some water and a sandwich at Austin Java, and sat down to read my book. I didn't have time to go to the Library and check anything new and exciting out, but I have plenty of books that I have never read at home so for this trip I choose My Antonia by Willa Cather. This turned out to be an excellent decision.I had bought it for 9th grade English and remembered that I didn't like it at all. In fact, I am pretty sure I never read it but skimmed the book for random quotes or read the sparknotes. The book turned out to be an exceptional read, which for me is rare because I can not stand books that are too detail oriented, and slow moving, I need a read that can keep my attention. Anyway, my plane had a short layover in Raleigh, which I stayed on the plane for and then we flew into LaGuardia. My plane was due into the airport at 6:25 and we had dinner reservations at 8:45 at Bar Americain(one of Bobby Flay's enterprises). We didn't leave Raleigh on time and cruised over New Jersey and the harbor for a while. I was 7 when we landed.Funny Story the fella next to me on the plane was also from UT and a 5th year senior mechanical engineer. He was on his way to Connecticut to visit his girlfriend. It was nice not to be sitting next to a creepo for the flight and we had a pleasant time visiting. So we finally land and then I have to wait for my baggage, I was originally going to take the bus from the airport to Manhattan, but I was glad that my parents had insisted that I take a taxi.I got to Diane's apartment fine and apparently just missed her, because the doorman had not even finished sealing the envelope for her spare set of keys. I had just enough time to change and freshen up before Lydia, Aaron, and his friend were outside. I came down and we all walked to the restaurant. We met another one of Aaron's friends there from med school and after they ghetto rigged our wobbly table we were seated and ready to go! We split a bottle of white and ordered the homemade potato chips and blue cheese dressing for an appetizer. The theme here is upscale regional American.I myself ordered the rack of pork, the boys mostly got steaks and Lydia ordered the Salmon. Everything was nice and we were all in good spirits. After dinner, we went to meet some of Aaron's lady friends from Syracuse in the trendy meatpacking district. First stop of the night One, where we met some Yahoo boys and then we went to Hiro, where I was the non-Asian minority! That place was funny. Finally we met up with Diane at Crocodile Lounge, where you get a free personal brick oven pizza with any drink purchase. Can you say DEAL?After that Diane and I went home to sleep. A great first night!
