So, I´m leaving Buenos Aires, Argentina and South America tomorrow... and will be back in the UK, and Edinburgh on the 16th.
Those of you who thought I was coming home on the 5th of August, you arn´t going mad. I brought my flight forward mainly due to financial issues (travelling does a lot cost money!). It´s a shame as there was so much more I want to do in Argentina, but I am planning on coming back one day. I loved Buenos Aires so much, I want to consider spending 6 months/a year here sometime in the future...
I´m feeling a little odd to be coming home, I´ve gotten so used to this lifestyle. It may sound silly but I´ve forgotten life back home. It´s not that I don´t want to come home, because I definitely do, but I guess i´m hesitant to leave.
Home has been on my mind so many times throughout the past 2 months (8 and a bit weeks) though, and at times when i just had my own thoughts (late night bus jouneys were the best...) I´d find myself thinking about the oddest places and things about home (Portobello...? A bus stop on Shandwick Place..?) and even feeling nostalgic for memories of things from the past.
Theres things I´ll miss about my time here in South America and life on the road, theres things I won´t, and theres things that I´m super duper looking forward when i get home...
Things I´ll miss:
South America... yup I think it´s a fantastic continent. It´s more than I´d imagined. I´ll miss so much about it (I´ve been nostalgic for Peru ever since I left it). Every country has something different to offer. I´d recommend anyone to travel here.
Meeting people and making new friends everday. It´s a great feeling to know you can do that wherever you go.
Making friends who live in various countries I might want to travel to, and who might not mind a little visitor sometime in the future :P
Having experiences you dream of and making memories you won´t forget.
Finding intriguing new places and places you could see youself spending a lot more time in.
Getting through challenging independent situations and feeling like you can do anything afterwards.
Things I won´t really miss:
Having to say goodbye to people you don´t want to, and places you´re not ready to.
Facing situations you don´t want to, when you´re tired and just want to find your next bed for the night.
Having to pack my bag every other day
...living out of a backpack
...carrying a backpack
...you get the picture.
Things I´m super duper looking forward to:
A proper cup of earl grey tea.
British accents, but more importantly Scottish ones... I´ve only met two fellow Scots while being away..!
Drinking water from a tap (how convienient is that!)
Having a break from jam...
...and having something else for brekie instead of bread and jam.
...like museli. How I´ve missed my morning museli. Museli or granola in South America consists of sugar puffs... everytime!
And on a that note... milk. Normal milk.
Humous - lemon and corriander, my love.
Driving
TIMMY! Big hugs are on the way...
Hair appliances (yes i know it´s really girly, and i can live without them, but I´ve blow dried my hair just 2 times in the last 8 weeks...)
Radio 1
Fixing my phone and having a mobile...
Edinburgh FRINGE! Best time of year
An obvious one... my own bed. Having slept in varous other beds - bunk beds, single beds, nice beds, rubbish beds, your own is always the best.
...and a duvet... would be nice.
