Claire and Richard's Travels
After a horrifically early start (6am!) and a close call getting to the train station in time, we found our locomotive and were on our way to Niagara. The 2 hours passed by swiftly in business class-esque reclining chairs with loads of legroom (not that us hobbits particularly need it!) On arrival, we found our hostel with ease, dropped off our stuff, grabbed a packed lunch from the Deli and set off along the pleasant river walk to the falls. After contemplating blowing off the falls to hit the slots in the nearby casino, we carried on, had our picnic and were struck almost dumb by the views. After Richard had had a nap in the shade, we donned protective clothing and began the 'Journey Behind the Falls Tour'. It is impossible to convey how amazing it was seeing the falls up close from the viewing platform just 9 metres up, getting soaked along the way which was a relief in the 27 degree heat! Leaving the tour wetter than anyone else, Richard proceeded to remain poncho'd, despite the heat, for a further hour or so, getting a number of odd looks and comments along the way. Indeed, his yellow splendour meant he was approached by a number of passers-by, requesting information about the merits of the tour. Once again, feet and legs aching (proper knackered!) we trudged back to the hostel for a quick rest on the porch. We're just about to get some food before making our way back to the Falls to see the illuminations and fireworks. Very excited. Tomorrow will be more or less a rest day, given the 12 hour train journey (probably more due to the recent floods) down to New York, New York.
