Hi Everyone
We arrived in Kanchanaburi on Saturday after a 3 hour bus journey from Bangkok.
We were taken from the bus station to our guesthouse by Kanchanaburis taxi service - see the photo of Andy in this hi tech vehicle!!
Having phoned to book ou guesthouse that morning, when we arrived we were told that they were fully booked, i explained that we'd called this morning to make a reservation - but no, no room at the inn!! Luckily a swedish guy said that we could have his room and he'd share with one of the thai girls that worked there!! Thank god, i don't think we could have walked around any longer in that heat with the backpacks on. So off we went to our hut - very sweet and right on the River Kwai. As we were rght by the river we decided that major mosquito defence was required, so out came the mosquito net (thanks bruvs!! - see pic!) and dad your plug in is coming in very handy!
The next day (Sunday) we were up early for our trip to Erawan Waterfalls, a trek into the jungle to see 7 tiers of beautiful waterfalls (see pics). After that we went Elephant trekking through Karen Village - a traditional thai village where several families live in one small hut. The elephants took us on a 45 minute trek through the village and into the water for a cool off, they're absolutely amazing animals and an experience we will never forget!
Next we were taken bamboo rafting onto the river which was great fun, unfortunatley we don't have pics of this as didn't want to get the camera wet! We were taken along the river for about 45 mins and got off to swim now and again.
After that we went to Death Valley were the film The Bridge over the River Kwai was filmed, which was amazing. We then went on a train journey across death valley.
Yesterday (Monday) we did a Thai Cooking course. We met at the restaurant and were taken to the market to collect our ingredients. We then went back to the kitchen and were taught to make 5 dishes, which i must say were absolutely delicious, if not a little spicy!
Today (Tuesday) we're off to Tiger Temple and tomorrow flying down to southern Thailand to start our island hopping. Looking forward to being able to swim and sunbathe for a while as haven't had chance to do that yet!
Keep checking our journal for more updates and keep those messages coming in.
Love to all
Claire & Andy xxxxxx
