The Further Adventures of Claire
Finally, Brussels has the kind of dance scene I`ve been looking for. There are open classes m-f, at least two dance performances this week, and a contact jam this sunday. Although the class I took today was just like those at Dance Space in NYC, both in terms of style and space. Once again I was stuck in a small room with too many people, and it seems that all over the world the only people who take release based classes are midgets. But good to have a class again, and a good class none the less. :)
Yesterday I saw Bud Blumenthal`s group (a local release company), and tonight Akram Khan and the London Sinfonietta are performing together. I`ve heard good things about him, so I`m looking forward to that.
(when you don`t know anything about the company performing it is always such a gamble whether you will enjoy the show, the style and ability of the dancers can vary so much...)
Of course I still found some time to be a tourist as well. And Brussels is such a beautiful city!! Although the seeing the big groups being led around like sheep made me a bit ashamed to snap too many pictures. I love to see all the old picturesque spots, but hate to add to the commercialization of the area. Even though I`m not doing anything wrong I still feel a bit guilty, probably because I cannot speak any french.
