Bear and Boots Excellent Adventure
Sunday 27th August
Got the 8.30am courtesy bus from town to Australia Zoo. Was about an hours drive away so we watched a Steve Irwin video on the way there. Poor Steve little did we know then what was going to happen to him.
We got to feed an elephant named Siam in the morning. Throughout the day we saw a snake, bird and the famous crocodile shows. We also saw the beginning of the Tiger show but had to go and see the roos on our way back to the bus. Gave them a bit of a feed.
I held a koala called Kramer, I had to hold tissue on my hands cos he couldn't stop pooing!!
Got back to the hostel and cooked pasta for tea and watched another 3 films!!
Monday 28th August
Did a long walk today along Sunshine Beach, Alexandra Beach and through the National Park around the coastline cliffs. We sat on a big rocky cliff for a break and saw a group of dolphins swimming about in the sea below was so cool to see.
Had a wander through town in the afternoon and had our usual Boost Juice! Did some supermarket shopping and went back to the hostel. We went to the beach in the late afternoon for a swim but chickened out cos it had gone really windy and cold! Had tea and watched even more films.
Tuesday 29th August
Our plans for body boarding changed today as it poured it down. Theres not much to do in Noosa on a rainy day so we just headed for down and sat in a coffee shop for a while. Had a wander through town before headin back to th hostel to read our books.
We got the Greyhound bus at 5pm to Hervey Bay. We checked in after 9ish and spent the evening showering and repacking bags ready for tommorrows trip.
Wednesday 30th August
We met everyone that was going on the 4WD Fraser Island trip at 6.30am in bar for the briefing. We got split into groups and all put money in to get food shopping which Hels and I volunteered to go buy.
As everyone was running late we got given 15 mins to buy food shopping for 11 people for 3days great!
We got the 9am ferry across to the island, a guy in our group called Rich was the nominated driver and had to drive on the mainland. He did all the driving for the first day, I think everyone wanted to see what the roads were like before they volunteered themselves!
We went to see Lake Wabby which was at the bottom of a massive sand dune, looked pretty amazing from above.
We then went to see the shipwreck and the Pinnacles but by then it had started raining again so we didn't hand about for long.
We then went to our base camp where we would be camping for the next 2 nights. We waited for the rain to ease off a bit before putting up our tents - 2 6man tents for 11 of us. Tea was a team effort of a bbq of sausage and chicken and salad. Luckily there seating area was covered so we could stay dry!
All chatted and drank lots of wine and got to know everyone. Talked mainly to a really nice english couple called Rich and Mel.
The lights all went off at ten so we were in bed by half past!
Thursday 31st August
We set off at ten this morning. We had a route to follow according to thetide times. You were only aloud on the beach at certain times of the day.
Gill drove us this morning, we went back to see the shipwreck and the pinnacles and then drove quite along
way up the beach to Indian Head. The sand became a lot softer and and harder to drive on we were swerving everywhere! Gill decided she didn't want to drive anymore after this!
We sat for quite a while on the cliff with views of the beaches. We saw about 4 or 5 sharks in the water below and a massive stingray too, ace!
Rich took over driving again and we went to Champagne Rock pools and had lunch.
On the way to the next place it started raining again and the windsreen started leaking brown water! So the people in the front were frantically trying to mop it up! Then an orange light on the dashboard came on and a constant beeping noise too!! No-one recognised the light so we asumed it must have been a 4wd fault as all the water, oiletc were fine.
We decided to turn back as the carpark was not far away otherwise we had to travel 7km to the next one. We went the wrong way down a one way track to get there and found the car park empty and no on e around to ask advice from!!
We drove down the beach to the next car park and luckily found the other group of people from our camp site. We followed them back to base camp to ring the 4WD people up. They told us there was water in the fuel tank and just told us how to disconnect the beeping noise and said ignore the light!
A few of us decided to go for a walk along the dunes nearby the camp for an explore, it seemed to go on orever an ever. We saw some dingoe footprints but no dingoes. Then it started to rain! We got sooooooo wet through you could ring our clothes out!
We got back to camp ad changed and then had a big pasta tea, played cards and went on a walk to spot dingoes - still didn't see any! Hels and I decided to sleep in the 4WD tonight as the tent was really cramped, we hoped to spot some dingoes too but didn't see a single one!
