Bear and Boots Excellent Adventure
15th aug
the receptionist from our hostle took us into town and we explored the shops then went for a walk throught the botanical gardens. we walked through some amazing mangroves - it was so hot we wanted to jump into the crystalclear water!!!! we carried on walking up to the harbour area, loads of boats!! rich had blisters from his sandals so had a rest, me and claire walked up to mutton bird island, a conservation park/island for oz birds at the end of the pier. it was a steep walk to the top of the island but there were really nice views of the harbour and distant hills. on the way up the hill claire saw what she first thought was a dead fish then a snake but which in fact turned out to be a guana ( a giant lizard). it gave us such a fright ( because we thought it was a snake) i ran away trying to shove claire back down the hill but she lost her flip flop, then we realised it was a lizard - highly ammusing!!!!
we all then went back to the hostal, after getting a bit lost and hired body boards out and went down to the sea. the waves were really rough which was great but quite scary- we caught lots of wicked waves!!! because we didnt have wet suits the sea kept trying to steal our bikinis and shorts - i think we flashed a few people whoops!!!
we went to 'red rooster' like kfc for tea and went to the cinema to watch miami vice.
Wednesday 16th August
Did boring washing etc in morning, then in afternoon Hels and I went to the pet porpoise pools. Rich went to the beach as his feet were all blistered and couldn't walk very far.
We saw sealions and dolphins do a show and got to kiss them too! We played catch with a ball with the dolphins and fed some little penguins.
After we went to meet Rich on the beach who showed us his sand chair sculpture so he could sit and read his book more comfortably!! Did some body boarding before going back to the hostel.
We went to the bar at 6.30 for a free bbq, they were having it because a film crew were staying there and doing some filming for a show called 'Travelling Man'. A couple of guys were doing some travelling and showing alternative things to do whilst backpacking. Of course we got to be extras in it, it wouldn't have been the same without us!!!
It was quite cheesy, we all had to sit around a table and after the 'travelling man' (Pete) had said something we all had to raise our glasses and say 'cheers to that travelling man'!!!
Their pilot had been approved but they aren't sure what will happen with the few episodes they have just shot, maybe dvd or a travel channel!
Whilst there we met Steph and Beck from London and John and Brendan from Ireland.
We all agreed to go campinga at Man River with travelling man the day after and help out with more filming! John and Brendan were to drive us to the camp site.
Thursday 17th August
After cheking out we met John and Brendan and squashed ther 3 of us with bags into the back seat! On the way to Man River, we stopped atWoolgoolga beach and had a walk along the rock pools.
This is when we got the call to say something had gone wrong with filming and they were heading straight to Byron Bay nooooooo!
So we squashed back into the car and headed for Holiday Village backpackers in Byron.
The hostel included free tea at Cheeky Monkeys a bar across the road so we headed straight there.
We bought some beers and played cards back at the hostel and then got a free drinks voucher for a bar called cocomangas. The drink was a cocktail in a jam jar which was cool, the bar was less cool and we didn't like the music so we left to meet John and Brendan at Cheeky Monkeys. Quite a few drinks later Helly, John and I were dancing on the tables (it's okay it wasn't just us apparantly it was the done thing!) whilst Rich and Brendan played pool.
