Worlds Most Dangerous Road- WMDR
Well i'm writing this so you know I survived!! Just! Ha!
Before I begin I just have to state a few things...
1. I cannot ride a bike very well
2. If you want to work out your bingo wings take a bike ride down the WMDR
3. I am the UNLUCKIEST person in the WORLD when it comes to the top of mountains and clouds
Ok then so we were picked up at 7:30am and were the only two on the tour with our company, RESULT! (we only picked our company because we liked the t-shirts!)
Once we got to the top, 4,700m above sea level, we were kitted out in the sexiest gear you could ever imagine! Full motorcycle hemlet, gloves, a coat and matching trousers! Whiiittt whoooo! Haha!
We started our descent down the WMDR going down a total of 3500m! And lets not lie, it was fully tarmaced and not dangerous, in fact it was so wide you could fit two lanes down it! And it was COLD! i wasnt impressed! And we kept hitting rubble bits on the road which made me slide all over the place! (we all know what happens when the terrain changes when im cycling!)
We powered through thou for about another hour or so, and then were told to get back into the van to do the next bit!! We werent even cycling! Ha! Once we started thou i knew why! It was up hill, raining and a building site! Ha! We went about 9km like this and then finally got to the start of the official WMDR, (the bit before was apparentely the new highway!)
This bit was rubble! Omg! Bumpppyy! The suspension was INCREDIBLE! And the sexy outfit we had to wear now made sense, we were covered in mud!!
The only problem was that it was cloudy at the top, the best bit.. :-( so we were cycling but couldnt see it and therefore obviously didnt feel the danger too much! But it was still cool! The corners werent so cool! I kept using my back brake which isnt right apparentely so my back wheel kept skidding out and nearly resulting in me falling off! We were cycling for about 3/4 hours so for 3/4 hours i had the constant fear of falling off at high speeds and a full upper body workout!! And i paid for this... :-/
Once we got to the bottom we were taken to this hotel were we had a buffet lunch (chicken and chips- great selection!) and a cold shower! (for once i didnt mind!) i did mind the flys that were also in there but i just closed my eyes! Haha!
We were the only people at this place! There were tables set up for 5 other companies and whilst we were there (about 1hour 30mins) no-one else turned up!! We assumed someone must have cycled off the edge! Ha!
After lunch and showers we were taken back to La Paz!
To be honest it wasnt scary cycling down, and i think that Top Gear episode makes it look a lot worse than it is!! But im glad i didnt fall off!! And thankfully theres only one more trip to do on a bike, a wine tour in Argentina, which i will probably end up with more injuries from!! Ha!
Speak soon! Muchos love.
