Monday 18th April
Arrived in Darwin 4.30am having spent the most uncomfortable night on a plane. The taxi driver had Crowded House on the radio - thought I had gone back in time to my last visit to Oz 20 odd years ago!
Having real trouble now remembering what day it is so here are the bits I can remember (probably in the wrong order).
Tuesday 19th April
Litchfiled National Park - hiking, waterfall swimming, looking for crocs and overnight camp near to the area which has the highest concentraion of snakes in the world. Luckily they must have been on holiday and none were sighted in the area. I am now an expert on termites and termite mounds. I do not think I need a termite to go with my elephant, my tiger, my orangutan, my kangaroo and my croc - don't think there would be enough space in my bag.
Wednesday 20th & Thursday 21st April
Kakadu - More hiking, more swimming, more walking, viewing cave paintings, camping. Starting to think I have booked the wrong trip - I get up every morning between 5am and 6am to spend most of the day hiking in the heat! (note to self - read the itinerary more closely in future before booking).
Friday 22nd April
Katherine Gorge - Far too hot to go on the 3 hour hike so stopped in the visitors centre and had an ice lolly and used the internet.
Saturday 23rd April
Another 5am start and a morning dip in hot springs followed by another long drive to a fab outback pub at Daly Waters. Of course I continued to put the Isle of Man on the map and left them a Manx £1 note.
On to Tennants Creek for the ovenight camp and a great photo of the stars which you probably won't appreciate as I think it is one of those you had to be there sort of photo.
Sunday 24th April
Bit of a lie in (6am) and off to see the Devils Marbles. Big rocks which have been wethered and are now sphere shaped. I have witness more sunrises in the last week than I have in the total of my 43 years of living!!
Arrived in Alice Springs having completed the 1600km bus ride from Darwin. Time for a rest (1 day only) and tidy up (personal and packing).
Monday 25th April
Catch up with emails, face book and blog notes. Get ready for the next part of the road trip to Uluru
