After 5 hours, lots of hill climbs and around 250 miles on the clock we arrived in Wanaka to break our journey before heading on to Queenstown for a few days tomorrow.
The scenery is vast and breathtaking in every way, the pictures don't really capture the scale or the beauty. We had a coffee stop over at Lake Tekapo, an enormous piece of carrot cake and on with the journey.
We arrived in hip & trendy Wanaka, took a walk down to the town via the sunset on Lake Wanaka - just beautiful. I would have loved to swim but it's too cold. Wanaka is a ski resort so it's quite surreal to be here but not to ski. Its right at the end of the season so G is hoping for bargain ski wear, not sure how excess baggage will go down on our internal flights!
A delicious meal and a couple of beers then a slow walk up the hill (didn't look steep on the way down!) Most of the walk was spent looking up at the zillions of stars in a clear black sky, so easy to see without street lighting.
We pick up our journey to Queenstown tomorrow. New Zealand is really jaw dropping, stunning! I love it here.
