Our 4-day/3-night spontaneous getaway to see Amy Brooks artwork on display in a NYC Art Gallery.
Saturday, March 7: We took a super early flight using US Airways (free roundtrip tickets using our miles) into LaGuardia airport. Grabbed a shuttle to Penn Station. Grabbed a bite, then the LIRR (train) to Long Island where Sami and kids scooped us up. We spent 2 days/nights with them. She made us an amazing dinner and we played with the grandkids. JP worked late but had a beer with us before we all crashed out.
Sunday, March 8: We 6 spent the day at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, an IMAX movie, Nunley's Carousel, then to Applebees for dinner. Very fun day indeed.
Monday, March 9: Our quick visit over already. Kids off to school, then JP dropped us off at the train station. Arrived at Penn Station and walked to our hotel about 1 mile away. The Amsterdam Hotel - 1 block from New World Stage Theater where Amy's art is on display. We got early check-in, then over to the theater. So happy to see Amy and the other Boston University grads with their art on display. Some beautiful stuff indeed. Afterwards, the 3 of us went for dinner and drinks at a local pub. Cheryl had too many Margarita/Champagne cocktails and paid the price the following day. We 3 crashed in the hotel.
Tuesday, March 10: Amy got up super early to take down her displays. She picked us up some Starbucks and then we 3 went to breakfast. Afterwards over to the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) to view more amazing artwork. Spent the day there before saying our goodbyes. Took a shuttle in heavy NY traffic to LaGuardia where we MISSED our flight. It was the last flight out to Detroit. The ticket agent took great pity on us a put us on a Washington DC flight with a connector to Detroit. Added an extra 2 hours to our return but no extra $$. Got home at 11pm. What a busy and wonderfully adventurous 4 days.
