Daniel & Pete's Thailand Adventure
Bangkok, Thailand
Hey!!
Flight was good as we got 2 seats each.
Hotel was splendid; Walk in shower, Jacuzzi, 2 TVs, Hi Fi and a massive breakfast buffet.
The famous backpackers location in Bankok is Kho San road and it was absolutely crazy!!! Had dinner for a pound, got drenched by the rain and then got hammered on Singha beer and Thai whiskey shots.
Met a bit of a mental Irish guy in the Travellers Inn bar whilst watchin Chelsea, who we couldnt really understand but he was banging on about going tiger and elephant hunting in northern Thailand. According to him anything is possible in Bangkok. Pete called him gay due to his antics with a ladyboy, he jokingly threatened to bottle us, we laughed and then promptly left. Next bar we met more Irish backpackers and introduced them to drinking games, which we proceeded to lose at. As we stumbled out of there, we met two girls from Southampton Uni!!! who obviously knew Pikey.... and his nipple ring. But we couldn't chat for long as Chubs wanted his fourth helping of Pad Thai (Thai noodles) for only 30 pence. Evey taxi driver was trying to force us to go to "ping pong" or special Thai massage, being such upstanding gentlemen we declined and went back to our lovely hotel for a well deserved sleep.
Next morning, we got into a taxi with a very special driver who ended up being our chaffeur for the whole day. We noticed that all Thai people in Bangkok were wearing bright yellow polo tops, Tic our taxi driver explained that it was a day of celebration for the King of Thailand and that yellow was the King's colour. They adore him. Next stop was to get our tickets to Krabi, in southern Thailand, first guy quoted 1000 Baht (14 pound), which was well over priced. He refused to budge, saying "fix price", so we stormed out. Tic took us somewhere he knew, they quoted 900, we said 800, suddenly he went crazy saying "I love King, I love King, for king 700, 700!!!". The King had got us a grand saving of 4 pound, Aaron you must be impressed.
Tic then offered to take us around the city for a mere 100 Baht, when comparing this to the 400 Baht some rip off merchants tried charging us for short trips, you realise what a legend this man is. Next stop was the Grand Palace, to be honest we weren't that excited but we should have been!! No shorts and no shoes in the temples. The attention to detail was immaculate, seeing the sun hit the many intricate gems was something to behold. The pictures won't do it justice. We also paid our respects to a Buddha, and laid about for an hour in its tranquilty.
Tic saved us from the heavy rain by appearing out of nowhere, hands aloft and a great big smile. Legend.
Before returning us to our hotel, Tic mentioned that tailored suits in Bangkok were of a good quality. Just as we thought he was about to sell us something, he asked if we would visit a newly opened shop called Manhattens as they were giving out free gasoline vouchers, which would obviously of great use to him. We happily obliged. The shop was run by gay, forceful indians, who followed your every step, saying "Mmm, you like yes, yes you like". Just for a laugh, Chubs got quoted for a dress shirt, 40 pounds, we nodded our heads to get these tossers excited and then left chuckling. Tic was very gratetful and reduced the price of the taxi fare but we politely rejected. Tic asked about our evening plans, which was Muay Thai boxing and we arranged for him to pick us up.
To be continued.........
