Woke up at 4.30am to get ready to catch the 5.55am train from Bangkok Central station!
Train left on time, it was an old fashioned train with lots of locals on, selling all sorts! Smelt bad as well and the toilet was horrible! Stopped at so many stations on the way. Was good to see the slums on the edge of the city and then soon after it all changed into countryside, mainly rice paddys.
Arrived in Poipet just before 12ish the boarder of Thailand and Cambodia. We had to get a tuk tuk to take us to the boarder control. It was such a long, awkward process! Especially having our backpacks on the heat! We had to stop off at different points then walk onto the next one. Took an hour to do! Luckilt nothing was said about my visa!.. At the end we got a 'share taxi' (a normal car with all of us plus the driver and our luggage!) with a couple (Tom and Emma) who were traveling from Shewsbury. The journey to Siem Reap took about 2 1/2 hours on a long stretch of road, we got to see lots of village life going through so was it was an interesting journey!
When we arrived in Siem Reap we got dropped off at the Tuk Tuk station and were taken to our guest house 'Mandalay Inn' Tom and Emma came with us to have a look and booked a room there as well.
When we sorted ourselves out we went out for a wander. Siem Reap was not what I expected at all! Full of western tourists and fairly westernised. Had a lovely dinner in a Khmer restaurant called Angkor Place had dish called fish amok - which is steamed fish in herbs wrapped in banana leaves and served with sticky rice, was yummy!
During dinner Kelly and I noticed across the street a fish pedicure and decided to have a go! We sat on the side and put lower half of our legs in, it was so tickly! Didn't quite get used to it! Gave it 15 mins then finished, my feet were lovely after! We paid $3 and you could stay as long as you wanted!
