Hello again all,
We're on the remote island of Don Det,4000 islands, south Laos! We've only seen 3 so far and about 100 on the map so where the others are is beyond.Slight exaggeration I think!
It's tranquil,un-spoilt and we really feel we're being treated to the real Laos here.
Our first day was spent cycling around the island and to nearby islands, which was tough given the heat & pebbled roads.
Over 4km later we sat by the river admiring the views and chatted with a German traveller, and as we've done with so many nice people we've met so far:share experiences and trading useful information to take with us.
It's a very lazy & beautiful place here and much needed before our big trip to India.
Second day was spent visiting the rest of the island, this time we walked it!
Glad we did as it gave us a chance to visit the schools, temples and get to know the locals.
Really liked it here! Back to Vientiane to pick up our Visas for India.Fingers crossed!
Most note:As mentioned it's very undeveloped here:no cars,roads,ATMs,dial-up speed 'broadband' Internet etc. And here has been the most basic accomodation we've stayed in so far.
We stayed in a nice place the first night but to save money ...and the fact I wasn't amused by the truth-bending owner Mr Mo & developed a personal vendetta against him, resulting in me refusing to give him any more money... and there was the industructible, clapping cockroach - I'm not usually a killer of bugs but he's brown bread now.
Soooo we relocated to a hut on stilts on the Mekong.Less than £4,Mosquito nets, lots of bugs etc.
But glad we did as we also had hammocks outside our room, a great view of the river and it gave us a baseline to as low we'd go for accomodation!
Much love,
Christian & Laura
