So despite having been travelling for over 3 months, this now the first time I am actually going it alone!!! It is quite an exciting thought but also a very scary one. So for my first day on my own, I head off for breakfast to plan my day and off I go. First I went to Devi's Falls, a beautiful waterfall just away from the Lakeside and then off to the International Mountain Museum. This was a brilliant museum, for one when everything is in Nepali and English it does limit the amount you need to read, but also it was brilliant at explaining not just the mountains but also the Nepali people. I found the most interesting thing in the museum was the pictures they had of Nepal 50 years ago and today. What made it so interesting was that they were pretty much exactly the same, the women working in the fields carried the loads the same way, the children playing were playing the same, there was very little difference at all. When you think of England 50 years ago and now, there is such a vast difference, mainly technology but still a very clear difference. On my first day solo I also went to Nepal cultural show in one of the restaurants, it was a little slow but still I always find it fascinating to see cultural dances. At the end of my day I felt incredibly proud of myself that I had made it through and would indeed be able to continue making it on my own.
For the rest of my stay in Pokhara, I hired a bicycle and rode along the lake, through the local villages. I also rented a boat and in fact spent most of my time paddling back to the rental place because the boat drifted so much while I was reading my book. I think the most amazing thing I did in Pokhara has to be the paragliding, it was breathtaking. From Sarangkot we walked of the side of the hill and into the air, then copying the many vultures in the sky, we circled up using the thermals and got some wonderful views of the lake and the mountains. One of the funniest moments was as we were coming down, another pilot was showing off over the lake, miss judged the landing and landed short of the bank by about 5 meters. It's always nice when someone is showing off and then it all goes a bit wrong, he emerged from the water a little wet and with a slightly dented ego.
