I am currently sitting in a hamock under a guy staring out into the savanna. I have been in shingwedzi for 2 weeks. Here we sleep in hut sized tents with 4 people in each. We are a bit more intimate with nature which is a nice change. At night I hear hyenas and lions from a distance and often dodge scorpions when walking through camp. There is one building where we study that has air con and couches which is great for naps and breaks from the heat. Last week it reached 45 degrees celcius for us it is 113 degrees. It made Atlanta summers feel like winter in jersey. The past few days have been filled with rain and beautiful thunderstorms. Watching lightening hit the night sky in Africa could be one of my new favorite scenes. Daily life here has been full of small field projects lectures and studying for exams which are tomorrow and Thursday. We have gotten breaks to play soccer and frisbee which is always refreshing. On Sunday we played soccer against students from U of Chicago in the mud after a rainstorm. This of course turned into a mud fight with our group and we all ended up covered in mud and smelling like elephant dung. Today we had chocolate chip cookies which was super exciting for everyone. Another awesome experience was walking along the river the first day. We came within 10 feet of some hippos and a buffalo while we were walking. On our drive back we encountered a herd of elephants that surrounded our vehicle . They played with us for a bit and then walked away. Sundowners here is extremely beautiful. We drive to a bridge where we sit and watch the sun set over the shingwedzi river. Today we were lucky enough to watch crocodiles feed about5 feet from our vehicle. Well that's all for now ill write again in a few days with feedback from our 4 day break in sabie. Goodbye for now!
