Despite having convinced ourselves that we would never make it up early enough to see the sunrise over the sea we actually woke up at 5am (again) so headed for the beach armed with our cameras. A slightly cloudy sky was lit up beautifully with orange, pink and golden colours. We headed for breakfast and then dressed (or is that undressed) for the beach. We situated ourselves near the beach volleyball court which provided some gentle entertainment. After a light lunch Chris headed off for quiet time in the room and Diana fell asleep by the pool. In a bid to convince Chris that retail therapy would temporarily lift her blues Diana suggested a trip to fifth avenue might do the trick. We ran the gauntlet of stall holders calling us 'ladies' and offering to sell us "things you don't want for more than they're worth", and made it along six blocks before Chris found a dress to try on. Although she didn't like it we headed back and tried one that we had ignored at first, a beautiful deep blue summer dress! Locating a taxi we headed back to the hotel for our Steakhouse reservation.
The food at the hotel is great, and certainly our two different starters followed by soup did a great job of filling us up. The steak was OK but a little cold. Dessert was the highlight of the meal. A baked Alaska - quite passé in itself - but the waiter performed some highly exciting moves with 2 jugs of flaming sambuca which eventually he poured over the dessert. An early morning caused yet another early night but hey if you can't do it when you are on holiday when can you?
