Travelled up from Vientiene by bus to Vang Vieng. This is a little town up in the mountains which is full of travellers and we had such a good time here.People go there to go kayaking, tubing, biking, rock climbing and drinking.
We met lots of people in VV so ended up here for a few days and had a really good laugh. We went tubing, which was brilliant. This is when you get driven up stream of the river by a tuk tuk, dropped off with a big tube (think they're tractor tyre inner tubes) and then float 10k back down the river. There is a current which carries you along and you go over a few rapids too which are really good fun as long as you avoid the rocks. Along the river there are loads of bars which pull you in to stop and have a few drinks before you carry on your way! A few of the bars also have massive rope swings across the water where you jump on, swing out, then jump in. Chris did these but I only did the aerial runway as was too chicken!
We ended up in a bar called Ooh La La cafe most nights (owned by a man called Ooh La) playing Killer Pool. Chris came 2nd one night and won a bottle of Tiger Whisky - this is what eveyone drinks in VV - in buckets mixed with coke! As the same midnight curfew still applies here, the mian place to go drinking after midnight is a place called Joe's. This is literally Joe's garden where he has set up a bar and bonfires and you can carry on the night, until the police turn up and close down the party!
We also went kayaking in VV which was good fun. 10 of us all went out and everyone except 2 managed to capsize - Chris lost his sunglasses when we fell out (and his beer and cigarette) as we offered to tow two tubers (this was after we'd stopped at a few bars).
