Big effort to arise, up for breakfast then out to see the sights. I arrived outside the hotel to find that matt had agreed a tour of the city with a tuktuk driver (Jonny) for 20baht, we were slightly suspicious.
We went to the big budder, plus two other temples. Very good you say, but on the way we were forced to go to a tailors (we we're asked how many suits we wanted, none I reply, his response, two suits for you? Suits you sir I'm ok thankyou!!), a jewlers (shocking selection!!!), and a tourist information (who tried to charge us 1000 pounds for trips we didn't want!!).
Needless to say Jonny was not happy we had purchased nothin at all (he is on commision after all!!!). Matt wouldn't ditch him for a while, then at the next temple, jonny pushed us too far trying to take us back to the tourist office, we cut that boy loose. Other than stupid side tours, the morning was ok.
The afternoon was alot better, we walked to the palace (to be told it was shut, surprise surprise). So we walked around the outside, then got to the main entrance, again shut, so we just walked in.
A man, Tong, informed us that the we needed to wear trousers, so he led us to a place where we both got pjama style bottoms. Was bad enough but they gave us both the same pair!!! Looked a right pair of clowns!!!
Tong became our tour guide for the palace, which was great as he spoke great english, and to be honest, it couldn't have been a better tour, we both really enjoyed it.
It should be noted that Tong was quite possibly one of the poshest people that I have ever met, not bad considering his native tongue is not English!!! He also became out photographer for the tour.
At the end Tong led us to his friend who did tours of the river (we had asked him for advice), tong got his mate to halve the cost, which was awesome. The boat trip was great, particularly when a floating shop supplied us with beer!!!!
This day was great, ending with a few casual beers before bed.
