What....a...journey from Hanoi!
We thought it would be bad when we heard it was 24 hours on a NORMAL bus (not a sleeper bus) little did we know, that on our journey, we would also encounter not only shed loads of cargo being piled in to every nook and cranny, but also the bus driver picking up around 20 people more than the bus could possibly handle! It was like a being in a chicken pen, but alot hotter!
Vientiene was a bit of an odd one in my books! For a capital of such a huge country, it felt more like a town than somewhere that represented somewhere like Laos! We had a nice day there though none the less, hoping on some hired push bikes and following Dave's firections for a temple, ended up at a shopping mall! So thought it bad not to indulge in some western culture, with ten pin bowling, some golf and go karts! Oh how cultural that was!
On our way back to the hire shop, we did stumble across a temple, where we got a cheery "Hello" from a young looking monk who turned out to be fluent in English (Self taught) so we got a brief but intersting insight in to their way of life which was great!
We ended up going out that evening for some BBQ food from a stall and hit several bars, ending up in a very dodgy nightclub on the roof of a rather plush hotel!
Now off for some tubing in Vang Vieng! x
