We went to Raffles yesterday, but got thrown out because Chris was showing his toes! Crazy dress code: women can wear sandals but men can't! But the drink in the Writers' bar was really evocative.
We arrived late and knackered but our hotel is really nice. We had to change our room, though, as the first one was smoking room that had been "refreshed' and the chemicals used turned me into a myxie rabbit, with swollen eyes! A trip to the chemist and a room ungrade fixed me, though!
Yesterday, we went to Little India for a meal. Janette, we went to one of your recommended places, and it was brilliant! Best lamb biryani ever. We also got talked into 3 handmade shirts for Chris.
Today we wnet on a Dukw tour: an amphibian truck that drove round the city and then down the river! Great fun. We took a trishaw ride around China town nad had some more brillinat food. I am never going to fit into my clothes within a week!
Tomorrow we are off to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Lots of water and insect repellent will be needed, and we have been warned not to make eye contact with the monkeys, as they get annoyed!
We are having a wonderful time! This PC doesn't allow photo uploads, so I'll do that anothet time.
We are leaving Singapore tonight on the overnight sleeper to Kuala Lumpur.
The nature reserve was amazing, and the monkeys were well behaved! We didn't get close enough for eye contact, but there were lots of close encounters as they battered through the canopy above us. We walked for about 3 hours, and sweated buckets but the total sensory experience is mind blowing: sights, smells, incredibly loud sounds, and the sensation of 99.9% humidity is wonderful. I love the jungle!
Last night we went to Lua Pau Sat hawkers's market for dinner. It was the start of the Singapore Food Festival so it was incredible busy, and we have no idea what we ate, but we survived! It cost us the equivalent of about 4 UK pounds. Today we wnet to the Botanical Gardens and the Orchid house. I have bought another memory chip for my camera as I have run out of space already. Unfortunately, the business centre that I am using in the hotel does not run to a card reader so still no photos for you! Maybe I'll find an Internet cafe in KL.
After one night in KL, we go native and I probably won't be blogging until we reach Oz.
Nobody has used the message board yet! Is there anyone out there?!
