The sleeper was an experience! The train was one that Chris might have travelled on 40 years ago when he was last here! First class sleeper was a strange desrciption, as it was a complete rust bucket with holes in the floor, and was the noisiest train I've ever been on. Very sociable, though. We chatted with an orthodontist from kerala in India, and evryone in the station was really frienly too.
KL is a complete contrast to Sing: ultra modern side by side with very traditional, old buildings. Much more moslem: most of the women are covered. Much more chaotic and edgier, which is rather a relief after the super-clean, super-controlled and pretty paranoid nature of Sing.Death seems to be the only punishment for any crime in Sing! Malaysia has freed education up to 18, medical treatment for 1 ringitt (about 15 pence) and good social housing, but lots of crime. I am keeping a tight hold of my handbag!
We had a fabulous Iranian meal last night in a family resturant. Lots of kids and chat again: people are much friendlier here than Sing.
We are off to catch a local bus to the East coast in an hour. It is air conditioned, thank goodness. The tempreture was 38 degrees yesterday!
