Well our time in Malta is drawing to an end ( : -{( our last day here was spent on our own we caught a bus into Valletta to buy a few things and have a last wander through its streets.
It is quite funny we asked for directions a few times and the standard Maltese response was "go down there turn left or right....what ever it may be and ask again", sometimes we had to do this two or three times to get to a destination. after a while it was frustrating but funny never the less. I told Carmel that this is how the Maltese tried to win their battles by wearing out their invaders sending them on a wild goose chase and tiring them out....we both laughed.
We then caught a karozzin (horse drawn carriage) to Sliema which was was quite romantic.
Being here in Malta has opened my eyes to the amount of history it has and the turmoil my ancestors had endured, it has reaffirmed my pride to be from this heritage and explains a lot on how we are today. Such as to how the Maltese are so religious as churches dominate the landscape, there are over 315 churches and Malta is only 313 square kilometres so on average there one every square kilometre. Maltese bravery, determination and resilience, this is definitely in our genes as the Maltese over the years have endured many invasions and survived many rulers over its time and they still managed to keep their identity.
The time spent here was just enough to get a feel for the place. We look forward to our next visit which won't be so rushed and we can enjoy the ambiance without the need to see the attractions.
